About The Position

The Police Watch Operator provides administrative and operational support on a 24/7 basis to members of the RCMP and Municipal Enforcement. This position utilizes and is responsible for maintaining all relevant police databases, computer related software, and communication devices while multitasking in a fast-paced and high stress environment. Attention to detail and accuracy are essential components of the role as it provides critical support for officer and public safety.

Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Must have 3 years’ of direct related experience in a Police environment; may consider 3 years’ experience in Legal environment as an equivalent.
  • Ability to pass RCMP security clearance prior to receiving an offer of employment
  • Must maintain RCMP security clearance throughout employment
  • Ability to type 55wpm accurately
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete tested courses in: RCMP PROS User Course, RCMP CPIC Maintenance Course, RCMP Records Information Manager Course and National Call Taking Course
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete Police Watch Operator Training
  • Must be able to work shift work in a 24/7 operation

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and Audit PROS Operational Files - Monitor, review, link, audit, update, and conclude PROS records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with RCMP audit standards.
  • Manage UCR (Uniform Crime Reporting) Statistical Data - Review, score, and enter required UCR information for all applicable files to support accurate statistical reporting.
  • Conduct Safety-Critical Queries for Officers - Run and interpret history and risk-related queries in PROS, CPIC, CIIDS, and other databases to assess potential safety concerns, providing timely alerts to officers.
  • Perform CPIC Record Management and Messaging - Add, modify, remove, and verify CPIC entries; handle incoming/outgoing messages; process warrant confirmations; and ensure urgent records are updated immediately to avoid legal liabilities.
  • Operate CIIDS for Dispatch-Related Information - Monitor, track, and update officer status/location; perform internal/external messaging; and run queries across CPIC, PIP, Webview, and mapping systems.
  • Conduct Multi-System Database Searches - Use numerous law-enforcement databases (PROS, CPIC, CIIDS, PIP, Webview, etc.) to validate, confirm, and retrieve operational information as required.
  • Provide Administrative and Document Support - Perform general administrative duties (faxing, scanning, filing, e-mailing) and prepare legal documents such as Informations, judicial release orders, and summaries of outstanding warrants.
  • Support Operational Communications - Use radio systems, Ten Codes, and the phonetic alphabet to relay accurate information between officers, agencies, and the detachment.
  • Deliver Customer Service and Interagency Liaison - Communicate professionally with the public, RCMP detachments, and partner agencies by phone and in person.
  • Provide Training and Fulfill Additional Operational Roles - Train and mentor new Police Watch Operators and perform Police Communication Operator duties or other duties as assigned.
