About The Position

Performs office work related to telecommunications in the Police department. Processes and enters weekly call logs, logging arrest information, and running and logging criminal histories. Work with numerous resources through the internet, and provide information via the radio and telephone to police personnel in the field. Perform radio transmissions when other police radio channels are busy. Work is performed under general supervision with limited latitude. The position is a 24/7 function within the police department, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Position exercises some judgment in accordance with well-defined policies, procedures, and techniques.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent, and a minimum of one year of related clerical or office work experience, preferably related to law enforcement records and/or telecommunications.
  • Must possess a Florida driver's license.
  • Must obtain Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (FCIC/NCIC) certification within the first six (6) months of employment.
  • Ability to perform data entry with minimal or no errors
  • Ability to multi-task while working with tight deadlines and shifting priorities
  • Ability to organize work for timely completion
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to clearly communicate and understand the information in English, orally in-person, orally via two-way radio, through computer systems, and in writing
  • Ability to understand police and fire codes/signals used in Broward County
  • Ability to work varying schedules which may include holidays, nights, and weekends as assigned and/or when operationally necessary
  • Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of OSSI Software preferred.
  • Knowledge of police telecommunication procedures (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Enters, updates, and retrieves information from FCIC/NCIC (teletype) and other law enforcement databases related to missing persons, wanted persons, stolen property, vehicles registration, stolen vehicles, and other information
  • Performs critical functions, including, but not limited to, audible and video security monitoring, operating access control systems, monitoring license plate recognition systems (LPR), internal and external telephone support; reports unusual or suspicious circumstances to the appropriate authority
  • May validate entries in the Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (FCIC/NCIC) systems by pulling files and verifying the accuracy of entries; reviews validation printout for coding errors and ensures that all FCIC /NCIC database entries are active and contain accurate information
  • Utilizes resources such as CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) and RMS (Records Management System) to monitor officer activity and retrieve information as necessary
  • Performs a variety of administrative support duties, e.g., customer service tasks, relaying and resolving routine telephone and/or walk-up inquiries, generating a variety of standard documents and correspondence, and establishing and maintaining logs
  • Receives incoming telephone calls and answers general inquiries
  • Receives, processes, and/or prepares standard materials appropriate to the assigned department
  • Handles complaints with professionalism and tact
  • Provides general information and assistance; routes for follow-up when needed
  • Assists and logs information for police personnel as it pertains to running criminal histories, calling tow trucks, sending information to dispatch
  • Maintains, organizes, and logs business callout information
  • Interacts with a variety of people including, but not limited to, City employees, managerial staff, the general public, etc. with a professional and courteous demeanor
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are essential functions of this position
  • Performs other duties as assigned and/or required
