About The Position

The Police Sergeant is a uniformed first-line responder and supervisor in the University of Oregon Police Department (UOPD), a community-oriented policing agency serving the university community. Under the general direction of a Police Captain, the Sergeant independently directs, supervises, assigns, reviews, and participates in law-enforcement work. Sergeants maintain regular contact with students, faculty, staff, administrators, visitors, and the public while helping provide a safe and secure campus. They may be the highest-ranking law-enforcement official on campus and must be prepared to make emergency command decisions and provide immediate direction to the community until higher-level authority arrives. Work is regularly reviewed by the assigned Police Captain, and performance is appraised annually. This is an essential-services position. The incumbent must respond after hours during emergencies, report for regularly assigned shifts during emergency campus closures, and may be assigned to major campus events outside normal work hours. The position is regular and ongoing, with an FTE of 1.0. It is open only to current University of Oregon employees. Applicants must submit an online application, a cover letter explaining their interest and relevant skills and experience, and a current resume including employment dates. Offers are contingent upon a successful background check.
