About The Position

The Police Sergeant performs a complete range of law enforcement services for the ECU Health Police Department, including patrols, criminal apprehension, preliminary and follow-up investigations, traffic enforcement, and other tasks that help secure the hospital campus. The Sergeant assists the Police Lieutenant/Captain with scheduling and other assigned duties. The position is primarily assigned to report and work at ECU Health Bertie and ECU Health Chowan, but may be assigned to other regions as needed. The role works 40 hours per week and requires rotational day and night shifts. ECU Health Company Police is a corporate department serving all ECU Health properties. Offers of employment are subject to successful completion of applicable pre-employment screenings.

Requirements

High school education plus 1–2 years of formal education or training, or higher.
Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is required.
Law enforcement certification by the State of North Carolina.
Minimum age of 20 years.
Maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license.
1–3 years of law enforcement, military, or security experience/background.
Excellent verbal and written skills.
Selected applicants must pass a complete medical examination, psychological testing, and a police applicant background investigation.
One additional year of experience may be substituted for one year of required education; BLET is still required.

Responsibilities

Perform patrols.
Apprehend individuals suspected of criminal activity.
Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations.
Enforce traffic laws.
Perform other tasks that help secure the hospital campus.
Assist the Police Lieutenant/Captain with scheduling and other duties as assigned.
