Department: Patrols assigned area to detect crime, violation of University regulations, and to ensure security. Regulates pedestrian and vehicular traffic; investigates traffic accidents and files accident reports; patrols campus to ensure vehicles are parked in designated lots with the proper permit; monitors lots and metered spaces for overtime parking, issues citations, and authorizes vehicle towing and bicycle impoundments. Prepares incident reports and any other reports as assigned. Facilities training, to include, participation in various crime prevention training programs to promote public awareness of crime risk and prevention methods. Provides support to customer service personnel to enhance patron experience and manages crowd control at campus events. Assists ambulance service, provides first-aid treatment, and emergency escort service to members of the University community and visitors. Maintains quality standards, through education and research, stays abreast of advanced techniques and ideas designed to improve police performance. Maintains public confidence and support by emphasizing public relations. Provides security for special University events; provides transfer for University monies. Coordinates or provides escort for special guests of the University. Makes arrests, prepares criminal cases and presents testimony in court or other hearings concerning traffic violations, criminal offenses, and disciplinary matters. Assigned field training officer duties to provide field training to peer officers and may assume Officer in Charge (OIC) responsibilities. Directs and assists in the investigation of alleged, suspected, or actual criminal offenses and violations of University policy, state law and federal law. Detects and gathers physical evidence and determines if a crime or violation has been committed. Locates and interrogates witnesses, suspects, and victims to develop evidence and secures information to be used in investigation and in civil court, criminal court, or University hearings. Prepares and presents evidence in civil court, criminal court, or University proceedings. Prepares initial case reports, periodic progress reports, and case determination reports. Serves as a liaison with area law enforcement agencies to foster cooperation for the resolution of problems. Coordinates and participates in internal security investigations, background investigations, and related activities. Assists in developing and maintaining source and informant control; develops, collects, processes, and controls materials included in crime intelligence systems. Maintains and controls physical evidence and recovered property; maintains necessary documentation for such items. Inspects and maintains equipment and supplies assigned for performance of the investigative function. Conducts and designs physical security surveys of university buildings and facilities. Serves as supervisor to officers in the absence of the Lieutenant. Assure subordinate employees comply with department policies and procedures. Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned. Job Summary: Supervises and trains line officers and administers programs for police officers and associated staff to ensure safety and security on all institutional properties. This individual also enforces laws, investigates complaints and incidents, maintains order, identifies criminal activity, and apprehends and arrest offenders.
