This role requires a combination of experience and training to ensure the necessary knowledge and abilities are met. A typical path involves college-level coursework or specialized training in law enforcement, criminal justice, police science, public administration, or a related field. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree is highly desirable. The position requires three years as a certified peace officer, or two years as a certified peace officer with at least one year of full-time supervision experience. Probationary employees are not eligible. Additionally, candidates must possess an Arizona driver's license within two months of hire, valid peace officer certification (AZ POST preferred), and the ability to obtain and maintain Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS) Level B certification.
