About The Position

The Southeastern Louisiana University's Police Department is seeking a Police Sergeant to supervise one of their uniform patrol shifts. This shift includes Police Officers (levels 1, 2, and 3) and a Communications Officer. The schedule involves rotating shifts (5 am-5 pm or 5 pm-5 am) with alternating days off. The role reports to the Police Lieutenant - Uniform Patrol.

Requirements

  • Three years of law enforcement experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
  • Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required at the time of application.
  • Must have a current Civil Service test score for 2100-PSE-Protective Services Exam for Law Enforcement, unless exempted.
  • Must be able to be certified through the Southeastern Defensive Driving Course.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Nice To Haves

  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures officers meet qualifications and perform duties effectively.
  • May be required to qualify annually with a firearm.
  • May be required to be eligible for bond.
