About The Position

The Southeastern Louisiana University's Police Department is seeking applications for a Police Sergeant. This role involves supervising a uniform patrol shift, which includes Police Officers (Levels 1, 2, and 3) and a Communications Officer. The shift schedule is either 5 am to 5 pm or 5 pm to 5 am, with rotating days off/on based on assignment. The position reports to the Police Lieutenant - Uniform Patrol.

Requirements

  • Three years of law enforcement experience.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
  • Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required at the time of application.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
  • May be required to qualify annually with a firearm.
  • For some positions, applicant must be eligible for bond.
  • Applicants must have a current Civil Service test score for 2100-PSE-Protective Services Exam for Law Enforcement in order to be considered for this vacancy unless exempted by Civil Service rule or policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.
