About The Position

This part-time position involves complete and accurate typing and data entry of preliminary and follow-up documentation of criminal investigations. Responsibilities include data entry into the department database, fulfilling FOIA requests, and data retrieval from VCIN/NCIC systems and department databases. The role is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Employees must not consume or be under the influence of alcohol while on duty, on work premises, or operating agency equipment. This position requires working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s “Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy” and necessitates successfully passing a stringent criminal background check. The position is part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) offering career progression and salary incentives based on performance, qualifications, and experience, as funding permits.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three years of data entry and records management experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement terminology.
  • Highly skilled in the use of computer workstations.
  • Knowledge of concepts of records management including current laws, rules and regulations which govern the retention, dissemination, and disposition of police investigative records and related files.
  • Good oral/written communication, interpersonal and public relations skills necessary.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
  • Must be a US citizen or be a lawful permanent resident eligible for naturalization.

Responsibilities

  • Complete and accurate typing and data entry of preliminary and follow-up documentation of criminal investigations of all crimes and offenses reported to the Police Department.
  • Data entry into department database.
  • Fulfilling FOIA requests.
  • Data retrieval from VCIN/NCIC systems as well as from department databases.
  • Perform other work as required.
