About The Position

The City of El Cajon is seeking motivated individuals to join its Police Department as Police Recruits and make a direct impact on the community. Candidates are screened for the Regional Police Academy. The Police Department is committed to a safe and secure community through service, mutual cooperation, and respect. It responds to a range of calls for service while building partnerships and focusing on Community Oriented Policing. Sworn divisions include Patrol, the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force, Traffic, the Crisis Negotiation Team, Investigations, and the K9 Unit. Special assignments include the DEA Narcotics Task Force and FBI Safe Streets Task Force. Support divisions include Records, the Communications Center, Property, and an ISO-accredited Crime Laboratory. New Police Recruits are provided all equipment. The selection process includes an application review, a Physical Abilities Test (PAT), and the POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB). Candidates who pass the examination phase may be placed on an eligibility list and referred for further processing. All candidates must also undergo psychological and pre-employment medical examinations.

Requirements

• Submit an application and required attachments by the application deadline.
• A valid outside PELLETB score must come from an exam taken within six months of the scheduled PELLETB test date (on or after May 21, 2026).
• Achieve a PELLETB T-score of 42.0 or higher.
• Successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
• Complete the personal history statement, panel interview, polygraph, pre-investigative questionnaire, Captain’s interview, background investigation, and Chief’s interview if referred for further processing.
• Undergo a psychological examination and pre-employment medical examination.
