About The Position

The City of Hurst is conducting a Civil Service Examination for the Police Officer position. Applicants must apply online and meet specific minimum qualifications to be considered. The process includes a written examination, typing test, physical assessment, preliminary interviews, psychological examination, medical exam/drug screen, background investigation, oral interview, and polygraph test. The eligibility list generated from this examination will be effective for twelve months.

Requirements

United States Citizen (born or naturalized) or Honorably Discharged Legal Permanent Resident (effective September 1, 2023, per Texas Senate Bill 252, allows Legal Permanent Residents with at least two years of honorable military service to be peace officers).
At least age 21 at time of testing.
High school diploma or GED.
Completion of 30 hours from an accredited school, college, or university with a grade point average of 2.0 or better (hours must be completed by appointment and accreditation must be from a postsecondary institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or CHEA).
Vision sufficient (unaided or aided) to perform essential sight tasks.
Hearing sufficient (unaided or aided) to perform essential hearing tasks.
Licensable by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
Good moral character.
Stable employment history.
Valid Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain one).
Pass the written examination to be eligible for the physical assessment and preliminary interviews.
Submit a completed Personal History Statement (PHS) prior to the written examination.

Nice To Haves

Completion of two years as a sworn peace officer (waives 30 college hours requirement).
Honorable discharge from the United States military (waives 30 college hours requirement).
Veteran status for five bonus points on the written test (requires Honorable Discharge and submission of DD form 214 at the time of the written test).

Responsibilities

Perform essential sight tasks without posing a direct threat to officer or others, including color discrimination, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Perform essential hearing tasks without posing a direct threat to officer or others, including discerning spoken words from background noise and determining the direction of sounds.
Pass a physical assessment.
Pass a written examination.
Pass a psychological examination.
Pass a medical exam/drug screen.
Pass a background investigation.
Pass an oral interview.
Pass a polygraph test.
Pass a typing test (25 wpm net).
