About The Position

The City of Hurst is conducting a Civil Service Examination for the Police Officer position. Applicants must apply online by November 5, 2026. The written examination will be held on November 7, 2026, at the Hurst Justice Center, where applicants will also complete a typing test and physical assessment. Preliminary interviews may also occur on the same day. Passing the written examination is required to proceed to the physical assessment and preliminary interviews. Requirements

United States Citizen (born or naturalized) or Honorably Discharged Legal Permanent Resident (effective September 1, 2023, per Texas Senate Bill 252, allows Legal Permanent Residents with at least two years of honorable military service to be peace officers).
At least age 21 at time of testing.
High school diploma or GED.
Completion of 30 hours from an accredited school, college or university with a grade point average of 2.0 or better (hours must be completed by appointment and accreditation must be from a postsecondary institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an accrediting association recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation).
Vision sufficient (unaided or aided) to perform essential sight tasks without posing a direct threat to officer or others (includes color discrimination, peripheral vision, depth perception, and visual acuity).
Hearing sufficient (unaided or aided) to perform essential hearing tasks without posing a direct threat to officer or others (includes discerning spoken words, speech from background noise, and determining direction of speech/noise).
Must be licensable by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
Good moral character.
Stable employment history.
Valid Texas Driver's License (or able to obtain one).
Completed Personal History Statement (PHS) must be presented prior to entry for the written examination.

Nice To Haves

The 30 college hours may be waived for those who have completed at least two years as a sworn peace officer.
The 30 college hours may be waived for those who have been honorably discharged from the United States military.
Five veteran points will be given on the written test for individuals who have passed the written exam and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Military. A copy of the DD form 214 (showing type of discharge) MUST be presented at the time of written test to receive five additional points on a passing test score.
