Requirements

  • At least 20 years of age at the time of application and 21 years of age at time of graduation from P.O.S.T. approved academy.
  • A United States high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from a United States institution.
  • California Driver’s License.
  • United States citizenship.
  • Knowledge of effective verbal and written communication, including active listening and clear articulation.
  • Knowledge of techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively interacting with the public.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of modern office equipment, including a computer and applicable software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of physical fitness to handle the physical demands of the job.
  • Ability to notice details and accurately recall information.
  • Ability to make ethical and effective decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to adjust to new and changing environments and situations.
  • Ability to follow rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and supporting colleagues.

Nice To Haves

  • Upon successful completion of the P.O.S.T. approved academy, the selected applicant must successfully complete a probationary period upon promotion into the Police Officer position.

Responsibilities

  • Attend a Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Police Academy.
  • Receive comprehensive training in criminal law, patrol procedures, investigations, emergency response, defensive tactics, first aid, physical fitness, and modern law enforcement practices.
  • Upon successful completion of the academy, transition into a sworn Police Officer position.
