About The Position

Receives, stores, and issues police evidence and found property; performs a variety of clerical tasks; and performs other related duties as required.

Graduation from high school or equivalent
One (1) year of clerical experience
Two and one half (2 ½) years of work experience in handling evidence and property
Work experience which involved the performance of a variety of clerical tasks and demonstrated knowledge of office practices and procedures, and the ability to carry out procedures in clerical work systems, and operate various kinds of office equipment including computers, Microsoft Office, and other technologies
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license (Hawaii type 3 or equivalent)
Must be qualified to carry and/or possess firearms or ammunition in accordance with State and Federal law, e.g., no misdemeanor or felony domestic violence conviction

Receives a variety of police evidence and found property
Checks contents of evidence and compares with listing contained in evidence report
Notifies arresting officers in cases of error in identification or quantity
Segregates and stores evidence requiring special handling such as money, jewelry, corrosive, and perishable articles
Answers inquiries and advises others on evidence reporting procedures
Maintains evidence and found property records and reports
Enters item of evidence into the computerized Records Management System (RMS)
Documents the tracking and handling of evidence items according to standard procedures
Releases evidence only to authorized persons and assures chain of custody
Notifies owners or finders of lost property of disposition once determined
Testifies in court to verify chain of custody and condition of evidence upon receipt
May instruct and supervise others in the evidence room
Performs other related duties as assigned
