About The Position

The Police Detention Specialist is the entry level position in the Police Detention Officer series. This classification is responsible for learning and performing duties associated with the operation of a jail, the booking and processing of arrested persons, and the welfare and security of prisoners. Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $29.55 /hour or $61,464.00 annually. Requirements

  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
  • Some customer service experience required.
  • Possess certification from a Detention/Correction/Police Officer academy or ability to obtain certification within 12 months, dependent on third-party academy scheduling.
  • Must possess and maintain a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within a year of date of hire.
  • Pass a one-year probationary period.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
  • Performs all tasks of a Detention Officer other than transports and carrying a firearm.
  • Provides support to peers and police department employees for the safety of all our employees and inmates.
  • Provides quality control review of police department documents and other work product submitted by sworn officers, detectives and supervisors for validity, accuracy and completeness.
  • Enters, corrects, changes, retrieves, uploads, downloads, updates and audits digital information within our Jail Management System and County Booking.
  • Meets, corresponds or speaks with members of the public, department personnel and other criminal justice agencies on behalf of the Scottsdale Police Department to ensure timely, complete and quality customer service.
