About The Position

The Detention Specialist position will perform functions within the Police Department for the City of Edinburg. This role involves supervising and interacting with inmates, ensuring their safety and health, and providing inmate transport. The position also includes administrative tasks, inventory management, assisting with safety procedures, and providing janitorial services. The ideal candidate will have excellent people skills and enjoy providing customer service.

Requirements

High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency
One (1) year of related experience
Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record
Must be able to obtain NCIC/TLETS certification within six (6) months of employment
Must be a U.S. Citizen (certification requirement)

Nice To Haves

Associate's Degree
Two (2) years of related experience
Bilingual English/Spanish

Responsibilities

Supervising and interacting with inmates
Ensuring the safety and health of inmates
Providing inmate transport to court, interview rooms, and other agencies
Completing administrative work
Communicating and responding to queries
Performing and overseeing the inventory of jail supplies and inmate property, evidence, and lost and found items
Assisting in the implementation of safety procedures
Providing janitorial services
Providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed
