About The Position

The Gaithersburg Police Department is seeking highly motivated candidates who are at least 18 years old or will be 18 at the time of hire for the position of Police Cadet. This program is designed to identify and select qualified individuals interested in a future career as a Gaithersburg Police Officer, providing them with career orientation and hands-on experience to prepare them for the role when they meet the minimum age requirements. While a Cadet position offers valuable insight into law enforcement, it does not guarantee future employment as a City Police Officer Candidate. Cadets perform a variety of administrative, technical, and other tasks supporting the department's functions and operations, while observing and assisting sworn and civilian personnel. Ideal candidates will exhibit good character, sound judgment, honesty, reliability, and integrity, coupled with a commitment to community-oriented policing and a strong desire to serve the citizens of Gaithersburg.
