The Poison Information Specialist will utilize clinical and communication skills to obtain a history of exposure, including patient condition, agent(s) involved, and circumstances, in a timely manner consistent with the severity of the exposure. This role provides poison information on patients of all ages and utilizes information resources appropriately to accurately assess each exposure case. The specialist will formulate and implement an appropriate plan of care, communicate patient information and treatment recommendations, and evaluate the appropriateness of documented assessments and recommendations. Additionally, the role involves providing non-toxicological drug and medical information, initial crisis intervention for other medical or drug problems or suicidal intentions, and referring non-medical callers to appropriate agencies.
