About The Position

The Point of Care Coordinator works with the Laboratory Manager to be responsible for organizing, planning, and evaluating point-of-care (POC) services as well as performing the duties of a Medical Lab Technician (MLT) or Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS). This role oversees the daily operations of Point of Care testing for various Think facilities, develops and maintains training and competency programs for POC users, and ensures quality assurance and compliance with CLIA standards. The coordinator also performs routine laboratory tasks, manages equipment, and acts as a resource for POC-related inquiries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Laboratory Science or related science, which includes a one-year internship in an approved clinical laboratory required.
  • American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification required.
  • Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or Medical Lab Technician (MLT) certification required.
  • A minimum of three (2) years of experience as a clinical, hospital, or referral laboratory setting, utilizing electronic Health Records (EHR) required.
  • Knowledge of laboratory standards, procedures and equipment, accessioning, verifying specimens and specimen requirements.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules.
  • Skill in communicating in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, and time management.
  • Skill in using a computer and a variety of software, including Electronic Health Records (EHR) software, Laboratory Information System (LIS), Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Skill in managing multiple priorities and problem solving.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet established goals and objectives.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of professional and personal integrity.
  • Ability to convey professional demeanor and sound judgment in dealing with patients� care, protection of patient privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to act as a good representative of the company.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of experience in Point of Care testing and phlebotomy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of Point of Care testing for Think clinical support staff, Think Quick Urgent Care, and other Think Clinic facilities.
  • Develop and maintain orientation, training, and annual competency for POC testing users.
  • Develop and maintain POC testing procedures and all required records/documents to ensure quality assurance and compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) testing standards.
  • Develop and maintain quality indicators of POC testing actively participating in performance improvement activities.
  • Perform routine maintenance of departmental equipment and procedures to include, but not limited to inventory monitoring, instrument maintenance and checks, method/instrument validations, quality control management, and troubleshooting.
  • Responsible for performing all duties of MLT/CLS and adhering to departmental and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of POC testing and equipment with recommendations for their usefulness vs. cost and limitations.
  • Act as a resource for POC questions and information for clinical and laboratory staff.
  • Maintains and improves skills by participating in continuing education, professional development activities, and training exercises as required.
  • Participate in CLIA inspections as needed.
