About The Position

The Podiatrist will diagnose and treat diseases and deformities of the human foot. This role involves prescribing medications, corrective devices, physical therapy, or surgery, and surgically treating various foot conditions. The Podiatrist will also advise patients on foot care, manage specialist areas of practice, and refer patients to physicians when systemic disorders are suspected. Additionally, the role includes making and fitting prosthetic appliances, treating bone, muscle, and joint disorders of the feet and ankles, and working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Must have a California license and X-Ray / fluoroscopy license.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctor of Podiatric Medicine preferred.
  • Preferred experience in trauma cases and rear foot & ankle surgery.
  • Board Qualified/Certified by American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons with 3 years surgical residency / fellowship trained preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish is helpful.
  • Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant candidates with a Specialty in Podiatry are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose diseases and deformities of the foot using medical histories, physical examinations, x-rays, and laboratory test results.
  • Prescribe medications, corrective devices, physical therapy, or surgery.
  • Surgically treat conditions such as corns, calluses, ingrown nails, tumors, shortened tendons, bunions, cysts, and abscesses.
  • Advise patients about treatments and foot care techniques necessary for prevention of future problems.
  • Take responsibility for a number of specialist areas of practice working with a variety client groups (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis/ chronic disease, high risk diabetes, chronic neuropathy, vascular diseases, wound management/tissue viability, biomechanics, nail surgery).
  • Refer patients to physicians when symptoms indicative of systemic disorders, such as arthritis or diabetes, are observed in feet and legs during exams.
  • Make and fit prosthetic appliances.
  • Treat bone, muscle, and joint disorders affect the feet and ankles.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to liaise with other staff and disciplines, attend case conferences, and meetings as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with team members, hospital staff and specialist services to ensure an integrated service for clients.
  • Work independently as well as part of a wider healthcare team.
  • Provide culturally appropriate services, communicating effectively and respectfully with people from different racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and lifestyles and demonstrating a knowledge of, and sensitivity to, our patients’ diverse needs.
