About The Position

Diagnose and treat diseases and deformities of the human foot. This role involves diagnosing conditions using various medical tools, prescribing treatments including medication, physical therapy, or surgery, and performing surgical procedures for foot ailments. The Podiatrist will also educate patients on preventative foot care, manage specialized areas such as chronic diseases and wound care, and refer patients to other physicians when systemic disorders are suspected. Additionally, the role requires making and fitting prosthetic appliances, treating musculoskeletal foot and ankle disorders, and collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure integrated patient care.

Requirements

  • Must have a California license and X-Ray / fluoroscopy license.
  • Doctor of Podiatric Medicine preferred.
  • Preferred experience in trauma cases and rear foot & ankle surgery.
  • Board Qualified/Certified by American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons with 3 years surgical residency / fellowship trained preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish is helpful.
  • Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant candidates with a Specialty in Podiatry are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose diseases and deformities of the foot using medical histories, physical examinations, x-rays, and laboratory test results.
  • Prescribe medications, corrective devices, physical therapy, or surgery.
  • Surgically treat conditions such as corns, calluses, ingrown nails, tumors, shortened tendons, bunions, cysts, and abscesses.
  • Advise patients about treatments and foot care techniques necessary for prevention of future problems.
  • Take responsibility for a number of specialist areas of practice working with a variety client groups (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis/ chronic disease, high risk diabetes, chronic neuropathy, vascular diseases, wound management/tissue viability, biomechanics, nail surgery).
  • Refer patients to physicians when symptoms indicative of systemic disorders, such as arthritis or diabetes, are observed in feet and legs during exams.
  • Make and fit prosthetic appliances.
  • Treat bone, muscle, and joint disorders affect the feet and ankles.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to liaise with other staff and disciplines, attend case conferences, and meetings as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with team members, hospital staff and specialist services to ensure an integrated service for clients.
  • Work independently as well as part of a wider healthcare team.
