The Lab Lead Technician is responsible for and has the authority to direct the technical aspects of PMEL operations, ensure production efficiencies, and conduct/certify training. This role serves as the technical expert to ensure policies and procedures conform to the requirements of TO 00-20-14, PWS, AFI 21-113, AFI 21-101 and other applicable directives. The Lead Technician will also complete reports, perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and monitor training, supply, production control, civil engineering, and environment. They will provide calibration and repair services on electronic, electro-mechanical, physical, dimensional, mechanical, and optical Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) in the assigned Precision Measurement Engineering Laboratory (PMEL). The role involves troubleshooting, aligning, repairing, modifying, calibrating, and certifying TMDE, as well as interfacing with customers to report and resolve calibration/maintenance issues. Additionally, the Lead Technician will serve as alternate PQA evaluators as designated and utilize TMDE to troubleshoot and repair systems and circuit boards to component level, including surface-mount technology. They will capture test readings using common instruments and provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians. The PMEL Technician III may be required to perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. This position leads subordinate PMEL Technicians and Support personnel and is overall responsible for the technical operations of the PMEL.
