About The Position

Vertical Mechanical Group (VMG) is seeking an experienced Commercial Plumbing Foreman to lead plumbing crews on large-scale projects in Blacksburg, VA, and the surrounding area. This hands-on leadership position is responsible for directing daily field activities, coordinating manpower and materials, maintaining safety and productivity, and ensuring commercial plumbing systems are installed according to project plans, specifications, and applicable codes. The ideal candidate is an experienced commercial plumber who can lead from the field, communicate effectively, and keep crews productive while maintaining high standards for safety and workmanship. VMG teams support a variety of commercial construction projects, including universities and educational facilities, multifamily and mixed-use developments, healthcare and medical buildings, office buildings and tenant improvements, hospitality and hotel projects, and government and institutional facilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of commercial plumbing or piping experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience leading crews or working in a foreman capacity
  • Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and installation practices
  • Experience with domestic water, sanitary, storm, and specialty piping systems
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents
  • Experience managing manpower, productivity, and project schedules
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. repeatedly
  • Ability to perform hands-on work in an active construction environment
  • Ability to travel to assigned project sites in Blacksburg and the surrounding area

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Procore, Smartsheet, AutoCAD, or similar construction software
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Bilingual English and Spanish skills

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily work of plumbing crews, typically ranging from 2–7 employees
  • Assign work, communicate expectations, and monitor crew productivity
  • Lead the installation of commercial plumbing systems, including domestic water, sanitary, storm, and specialty piping
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and support to mechanics and helpers
  • Train and develop employees while promoting accountability and teamwork
  • Maintain clear communication with project staff, clients, and field partners
  • Plan and sequence work to support project schedules and production goals
  • Review plumbing, mechanical, and construction drawings
  • Coordinate labor, materials, tools, equipment, and site access
  • Work closely with project managers, subcontractors, and other trades
  • Assist with RFIs, design changes, and approved scope modifications
  • Communicate material needs, field conflicts, and schedule concerns promptly
  • Provide technical support to project management, procurement, and field teams
  • Monitor installations for accuracy, code compliance, and quality
  • Enforce VMG safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements
  • Conduct routine site inspections and address unsafe conditions promptly
  • Track labor and production performance to support project budgets
  • Ensure tools and equipment are operated and maintained properly
  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional work areas
  • Support inspections, testing, punch-list completion, and project closeout
