About The Position

EXP is seeking a Plumbing & Fire Protection Designer to join its Mechanical team and work on Aviation, Data Centers, and Commercial Buildings projects in Coral Gables or Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The role involves hands-on design and drafting, calculations, equipment selection, coordination with vendors and other disciplines, and field verification for renovation projects. The designer will work with oversight from senior staff and manage design work in accordance with project work plans.

Requirements

• 0–3 years of experience designing plumbing and fire protection systems for aviation, data, and commercial building projects, or recent graduate with internship experience in plumbing and fire protection.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably specializing in plumbing and fire protection.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit MEP.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on CAD work using Revit platforms.
• Perform heating and cooling load calculations using industry software such as Trace, Energy Pro, and DOE.
• Select and schedule equipment with oversight from senior staff.
• Lay out air- and water-side systems on working drawings.
• Understand fan and pump curves to select equipment appropriately for each application.
• Communicate with equipment vendors to determine requirements for applying products.
• Perform field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects.
• Coordinate HVAC details with other disciplines, including MEP, fire protection, architecture, and structural teams.
• Maintain the Engineering Calculation Book for projects.
• Understand work planning and manage the design process within the hours available in the work plan.
• Understand constant- and variable-flow systems and apply equipment appropriately.
