About The Position

EXP is seeking a Plumbing & Fire Protection Designer to join its Mechanical team and work on Aviation, Data Centers, and Commercial Buildings projects in Coral Gables or Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The role involves designing plumbing and fire protection systems, with responsibilities that include hands-on CAD work using Revit, system calculations, equipment selection and scheduling, system layouts, field verification, and coordination with other disciplines. The designer will work with oversight from senior staff and manage design activities within project work plans.

Requirements

• 0–3 years of experience designing plumbing and fire protection systems for Aviation, Data Center, and Commercial Building projects, or recent graduate with internship experience in plumbing and fire protection.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably specializing in plumbing and fire protection.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit MEP.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on CAD work using Revit platforms.
• Perform heating and cooling load calculations using industry software such as Trace, Energy Pro, and DOE.
• Select and schedule equipment with oversight from senior staff.
• Lay out air-side and water-side systems on working drawings.
• Understand fan and pump curves to select appropriate equipment for each application.
• Communicate with equipment vendors to determine product application requirements.
• Perform field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, including MEP, fire protection, architecture, and structural teams, on HVAC details.
• Maintain the Engineering Calculation Book for projects.
• Understand work planning and manage the design process within the hours available in the work plan.
• Understand constant- and variable-flow systems and apply equipment appropriately.
