About The Position
Glumac, a Tetra Tech company, is expanding its plumbing engineering group and is seeking an experienced Plumbing Engineer/Designer passionate about sustainable design for a lead role on diverse projects including healthcare, commercial, multifamily, and educational buildings. The role involves leading plumbing designs and supporting construction administration, with long-term career growth opportunities in building and leading a regional plumbing practice and shaping standards and workflows. The Senior Plumbing Engineer/Designer will lead plumbing and process piping consulting and design efforts from Schematic Design through Construction Administration, responsible for system calculations, client consultation, technical design, interdisciplinary coordination, QA/QC compliance, and mentoring junior staff. This role requires collaboration with internal and external teams, site visits, and a self-directed, solution-oriented approach with strong communication and organizational skills, and a commitment to sustainable practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years in consulting, construction, or similar.
- Valid PE license or CPD certification.
- Proficient in Revit (BIM).
- Strong plumbing design experience (commercial, healthcare, process, multifamily residential and/or manufacturing).
- Clear communicator, organized, solution-oriented, able to work independently.
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; this position is not eligible for current or future employment visa sponsorship.
Nice To Haves
- Medical gas or process piping experience (certifications a plus).
- LEED, LFA, or sustainability credentials (experience with water harvesting/treatment and heat pump water heaters a plus).
- Water treatment knowledge (experience with water softeners, descalers, interceptors, and similar treatment devices a plus).
- Fire protection knowledge (experience with wet/dry systems and dry-agent suppression systems a plus).
- Project Management, Business Development, or prior team leadership experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead plumbing piping designs and prepare construction documents.
- Perform plumbing calculations including: fixture counts, booster pump head, ejector pump head, domestic hot water loads (including heat pump design), storm water, condensate collection, etc.
- Coordinate with ownership, mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural teams.
- Support Construction Administration: RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, and field reports.
- Adhere to QA/QC policies and escalate issues as needed.
- Mentor junior engineers/designers and help grow the local plumbing team.
- Assist with Business Development (BD) opportunities when needed.
