About The Position

Facilities Management plays a critical role in supporting the University of Virginia’s academic, research, and healthcare missions. The Construction & Renovation Services Mechanical Trades team is seeking a Journeyman or Master Plumber who enjoys hands-on, varied work in an institutional environment. This position offers exposure to a wide range of plumbing systems, from routine maintenance to complex installations, across medical, academic, and commercial buildings. This role works independently and as part of a skilled trades team, applying sound trade practices while ensuring all work meets applicable codes and safety standards. This role is well-suited for a plumber who takes pride in quality craftsmanship and problem-solving. This position offers a stable 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday–Friday schedule based entirely on the UVA Grounds with no travel required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in the plumbing trade, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Valid Journeyman or Master plumbing license.
  • A valid Driver's license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Backflow Certification is strongly preferred. Candidates may utilize UVA education benefits to obtain this certification after 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose plumbing problems and perform necessary repairs.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on all plumbing systems to ensure long-term reliability.
  • Lay out piping systems and install proper hangers and support systems.
  • Ensure all pipefitting work complies with applicable building codes and construction documents.
  • Guide lower level employees like Apprentices and Trades Assistants in the field, ensuring proper trade methods and safety techniques are followed.
  • Foster a safe work environment by monitoring compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure all personal protective equipment (PPE) is used correctly.
  • Inform University customers of job status, including the duration of expected delays, and provide high-quality customer service.
  • Assist the supervisor with planning and coordinating daily assignments and materials.
  • Response to inclement weather, snow events and emergency as assigned.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
