About The Position

Responsible for the installation and maintenance of the supply and waste lines for the hospital conforming to the Codes of the City of Schenectady and the State of New York.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an apprenticeship program which includes education in blueprint reading, the proper installation of all phases of plumbing and a general knowledge of plumbing codes.
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools required to install all types of plumbing encountered on a daily basis.
  • Considerable walking, climbing, stooping and lifting of moderate to heavy objects weighing 50 -100 pounds.
  • Working inside and outside the facility, the incumbent will be exposed to extremes of temperature and weather conditions, high noise levels, dusty/dirty environments and patient care areas with patients having various illnesses.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures.
  • Install and repair systems with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and copper using hand and power tools used in the plumbing trade.
  • Respond to, diagnose, and resolve plumbing emergencies.
  • Install complete plumbing systems, underground to finish.
  • Install and repair drinking fountains, water heaters, boilers, sinks and faucets.
  • Minor fire sprinkler repairs or installation.
  • Minor steam systems repairs and installations.
  • Perform routine inspections (PM’s) of plumbing and drainage systems.
  • Assist other members of the In-House Team when plumbing duties allow.
  • Keep accurate records of time spent working, description of work performed, and materials used.
  • Perform all work in a manner that meets and follows plumbing and building codes, and standards.
  • Read and follow blueprints and rough drawings.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of necessary supplies and parts.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all company guidelines and OSHA safety requirements and through reporting violations of policies, procedures, and guidelines to immediate supervisor.
  • May include other assigned tasks.
