About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Plumber/Pipefitter Journeyman for the North of Las Vegas, NV area. This role provides plumbing and Liquid Fuels Maintenance for facilities and infrastructure. The position involves assembling, installing, troubleshooting, and repairing pipes, fittings, and fixtures of water and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes. Responsibilities include installing and repairing plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, and dishwashers. The role also entails repairing and maintaining all plumbing by replacing components in leaky faucets, mixing valves, check valves, and both manual and automatic flushometers. The Journeyman must be able to mend interior/exterior pipes made of PVC, PEX, copper, asbestos cement, cast iron, galvanized, and black iron using methods such as soldering, appropriate clamps, threaded, push-to-connect, and mechanical joint fittings. Additionally, the role requires opening clogged drains using various methods like plungers, manual and power snake machines, and maintaining all plumbing and pipe fitting systems and associated components to be operational according to the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC). This position also involves performing a variety of maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings, and requires government certifications, skills, and knowledge for plumbing and liquid fuels maintenance.

Requirements

  • Journeyman plumber with at least 2 years of experience acquired through training and/or experience under a formal apprenticeship or 4 years (8000) hours of substantiated experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of verifiable work experience is required.
  • Must be willing to achieve certifications according to government requirements.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have normal color vision, freedom from fear of heights and confined spaces.
  • Must have CPR/First-Aid Card and stay proficient in CPR.
  • Must be able to research, specify, and order materials.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, work orders, inspection reports, and specifications.
  • Must have the ability to weld, braze, and solder.
  • OSHA-10 card.
  • Construction Industry UA 21 (Carbon Steel) certification.
  • Must have computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Project.
  • Must be able to meet eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain the required government Top Secret security clearance (US citizenship required to obtain a government clearance).
  • Must pass pre-hire drug screening and Fit-for-Duty physical.
  • Must be able to work in a remote location with limited medical personnel and facilities.
  • Must be able to listen with comprehension to assist customers with problems.
  • Ability to use good judgment and common sense when performing job functions.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to be punctual.
  • Patience to work under sometimes stressful conditions.
  • Lifting weight up to fifty (50) pounds is required.
  • Normal color vision.

  • Must be able to climb and work off of ladders, elevated platforms, and wear fall arrest gear.

Nice To Haves

  • Installation, operation, and maintenance of hot water boilers up to 250 horsepower.
  • Operation of hot tapping machine and water leak detection machines.

Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and modify liquid fuel storage, distribution, and dispensing systems.
  • Plan piping/tubing system layouts, installations, or repairs according to specifications.
  • Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, and related machines and equipment, following specifications using hand and power tools.
  • Install, repair, maintain, and replace water/steam lines, valves, radiators, heaters, storage and condensate tanks, steam traps, control valves, fittings, expansion joints, and steam pressure systems.
  • Measure and mark pipes for cutting, threading, and welding.
  • Bend pipe to required angles using a pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over a block and bending by hand.
  • Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water and waste distribution systems.
  • Select and insert pre-cut pieces of tubing, pipes, and fittings into holes.
  • Connect tubing/piping and fittings using solder, glues, or a torch to form sewer, drain, and water/steam lines.
  • Remove and replace worn components.
  • Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
  • Install/recondition small steam/hot water boilers and auxiliary equipment.
  • Work in cooperation with other trades and laborers to ensure that all specifications, procedures, and policies are met for efficient project completion.
  • Provide adequate services to ensure that all water/steam systems and waste drains are installed, repaired, and maintained to meet all standards of building codes safely.
  • Maintain records of time and materials used on jobs and complete job orders.
  • Work under general supervision and from oral instructions, preventive maintenance program plans, work orders, emergency calls, layout sketches, blueprints, drawings, specifications, or similar guidance.
  • Review Task Hazard Analysis (THA's) prior to assigned duties and follow Safety Data Sheet guidelines for handling, storage, and disposal of Hazardous Materials.
  • Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.
  • Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • Be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record.
  • Safety - Continuously develop and maintain a safe work environment, complete all training requirements, fulfill self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities, participate in emergency response tasks, and serve on safety committees and teams.
