About The Position

The PLM Business Process Lead is a vital catalyst for the S/4 HANA Transformation initiative, specifically overseeing the end-to-end Product Development lifecycle. Acting as a strategic liaison, this role connects Project Management, Quality, EH&S, R&D, Regulatory, and Packaging functions with Enterprise Technology partners. The Lead will drive the evolution of PLM workflows, shifting the organization from complex legacy systems toward a standardized, scalable SAP best practice environment. Successful internal candidates will have a deep knowledge of PLM processes in our SMG business processes, and the ability to utilize internal connections to influence change management and build confidence and adoption of the new tools and business processes. This candidate will need to demonstrate data driven mindset and willingness to drastically change our current business processes using SAP standard tools where available. Successful external candidates will have a data driven mindset with a demonstrated track record of product development within a standard “clean core” SAP environment. Specific experience with regulated products (FDA, FIFRA) within SAP product compliance is required. Specific experience with ERP implementation projects is preferred. Soft skills for both candidates includes the ability to be self driven in an ambiguous environment. Good communication and relationship building skills and the ability to have hard conversations bravely.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of Scotts Miracle-Gro (SMG) business processes. (internal candidates only)
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of SAP best practice processes and systems.
  • Willingness to learn and embrace future-state S/4 HANA processes with minimal customization.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and guide colleagues through change.
  • Keen eye for identifying and championing process improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to influence and build credibility across multiple levels of management.
  • Work cross-functionally to articulate the benefits and impacts of process changes.
  • Present well-reasoned recommendations and decisions to leadership and governance councils.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for business colleagues experiencing issues with SAP-based processes.
  • Provide hands-on guidance, share best practices, and deliver user training to enhance SAP proficiency.
  • Partner with business leads to establish team routines, participate in S/4 HANA training, and understand the differences between legacy and best practice S/4 HANA processes.
  • Ensure business processes are clearly documented and maintain updated process playbooks and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify improvement opportunities within system-driven workflows and contribute to continuous process enhancement.
  • Apply insights from SAP training and Signavio process mining to help transition from customized to standard S/4 HANA processes.
  • Collaborate with the SAP Process Enablement Architect to analyze Signavio findings and develop actionable improvement plans.
  • Participate in defining the Master Data High-Level Design, using inputs from Signavio and Syniti data scans.
  • Support data migration efforts, including detailed design, OCM planning, testing, and implementation of new or revised data standards.
  • Work with Legal, Controls, and IT to identify and remove outdated or unused data based on process insights.
  • Strengthen communication between end-users and technical teams to ensure clear understanding of process needs and system capabilities.
  • Participate in testing new functionalities, mock migrations, and data migration activities anticipated in FY27–FY28.
  • Contribute to Organizational Change Management efforts by helping design and execute plans that support user adoption of new S/4 HANA processes.
