About The Position

The Applications Department Manager is a technical subject matter expert and a working manager responsible for leading direct reports. This role reports directly to the Applications Department Director and is accountable for managing direct reports, supporting business improvement initiatives, and enhancing the operational performance of the HMI team. Key responsibilities include effective resource utilization, collaboration with remote teams, leading projects within scope, schedule, and budget, and ensuring consistent execution across the project portfolio. The manager will also focus on developing training plans, overseeing professional development, and ensuring quality control of work performed by the Applications department resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mechatronics, or electrical engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in PLC and HMI/SCADA programming.
  • 5 years of experience specifically in the Water & Wastewater industry.
  • Proven track record of leadership and progressive management responsibility.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to build and constructively lead teams.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft desktop and server operating systems, server roles including Remote Desktop Services, VMware Workstation, and configuring VM-based programming environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, contract documents, and P&IDs.
  • Strong understanding of basic SCADA network principles and design.
  • Solid familiarity of PLCs, PLC-related hardware, OITs, and HMI/SCADA platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage assigned projects, ensuring delivery within contracted scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Oversee the professional development of all direct reports.
  • Responsible for the quality control and periodic auditing of work performed by Applications department resources.
  • Participate in Monthly Management meetings.
  • Responsible for complete delivery and accuracy of standard Applications department deliverables, including PLC programs, HMI applications, HMI colors, tag standards, data logging standards, security standards, and HMI architecture diagrams.
  • Monitor and help manage project risks in collaboration with the project manager.
  • Adherence to defined organization work processes and tools.
  • Develop an environment that encourages and rewards new ways to advance PLC and HMI solutions.
  • Develop ways to attract and retain top talent by maintaining a positive and encouraging work environment.
  • Participate in the interview and hiring of PLC and HMI resources.
  • Provide technical assistance to Sales and Marketing for promotional development and sales proposals.
  • Provide support in the selection process of PLC hardware, SCADA software, technology, security, and best-practices.
  • Establish recommendations on PLC and SCADA architectures, best practices, and standards.
