About The Position

The Alaska Military Youth Academy (AMYA), within the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, is hiring a male Platoon Leader to supervise and mentor at-risk youth in a structured, military-style residential program. The position supports students in developing positive life skills, appropriate behavior, accountability, and ways to cope with challenges. The Platoon Leader serves as a role model, mentor, supervisor, and disciplinarian, reinforcing the Academy’s goals in leadership, citizenship, academics, employment skills, life coping skills, health and hygiene, community service, and physical fitness during the 22-week program. Duties include providing direction and coordination, correcting inappropriate behavior, evaluating employee performance, documenting incidents and performance, ensuring policies and procedures are followed, and recommending corrective action when violations occur. The work calls for strong communication, consistency, judgment, conflict management, and the ability to maintain structure while supporting young people.
