About The Position

As a Platform Engineer, you will build and own software that takes machine-learning models from research to production. This includes the Theia SDK for real-time inference at the edge, APIs and services used by customers and partners, and cloud infrastructure supporting data and model pipelines. You will work closely with machine-learning engineers and researchers, with a core focus on building reliable, well-designed systems around their models. The role covers SDK development in Python and C++, backend and API development, AWS infrastructure, internal and customer-facing web tools, data pipelines for eye-tracking records, and production deployment and optimization of machine-learning models. The position is described as remote and offers exposure to real-time eye tracking, ML pipelines, SDKs, and VR/AR integrations. The posting also includes an application note describing QA fundamentals, automation, and AI-assisted workflows; this appears inconsistent with the Platform Engineer role description and its stated qualifications.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience building production systems.
  • Strong Python skills, including packaging and distributing libraries.
  • Working familiarity with C++, including reading, modifying, and building code in a cross-platform codebase.
  • Experience designing and building APIs (REST, gRPC, or similar) and backend services.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, containers, and CI/CD.
  • Experience working with large tabular datasets in pandas, including data cleaning, transformation, aggregation, and performance at scale.
  • Working familiarity with machine learning, including understanding the model lifecycle and having helped deploy or integrate ML models in a product.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working across engineering and research teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building and shipping SDKs or libraries used by external developers.
  • SQL and database engineering experience, including schema design, query optimization, and PostgreSQL or similar.
  • Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code experience, such as Terraform.
  • Frontend experience with React or similar.
  • Edge or on-device inference experience with ONNX Runtime, TensorRT, TFLite, Core ML, or similar.
  • Python compilation or distribution tooling experience, such as Nuitka, Cython, or pybind11.
  • Exposure to time-series, sensor, or signal-processing data.
  • Interest in VR/AR, eye tracking, or human-computer interaction.
  • One year of experience in a research setting, developing or working with ML research domains.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain the Theia SDK in Python and C++, supporting real-time eye-tracking inference across desktop, mobile, embedded, and XR platforms.
  • Own SDK packaging, performance, versioning, and developer experience.
  • Design and implement APIs and backend services for data ingestion, model serving, licensing, and customer integrations, emphasizing clean interfaces, reliability, and security.
  • Build and operate AWS infrastructure, including containerized services on Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and monitoring.
  • Build internal tools, dashboards, and customer-facing web interfaces to make data and models accessible.
  • Build and scale pipelines that process eye-tracking records for training, evaluation, and analytics.
  • Clean, transform, validate, and analyze large tabular datasets, and develop tooling that enables the ML team to explore and work with data efficiently.
  • Partner with ML engineers to deploy, optimize, and monitor production and edge models, including model conversion, latency and memory optimization, and inference pipelines.

Benefits

  • Remote role with room to grow into automation, tooling, and AI-engineering work.
  • Direct exposure to real-time eye tracking, ML pipelines, SDKs, and VR/AR integrations.
  • Tight feedback loop with senior engineering and leadership.
