About The Position

Spread Group is a global provider of customized apparel and lifestyle products, using made-to-order technology and on-demand personalization. The Platform Engineer will join the Platform Engineering team to build the next generation of the internal developer platform for Spread Group’s core services. The cloud-native platform will be built on AWS as a greenfield project, with the engineer shaping its architecture, golden paths, and self-service capabilities. The platform will serve approximately 175 services across 13 product teams in Europe and North America. A key part of the role is migrating those services from the existing landscape, which includes more than a dozen Kubernetes clusters, around 280 nodes, and approximately 4,000 running pods, while keeping services operational.

The role combines platform product development, cloud infrastructure engineering, and migration work. The engineer will build platform services, APIs, and self-service features; provide standardized templates, pipelines, and building blocks; evolve AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code; and maintain the existing on-premises infrastructure and Kubernetes environment during the transition. The position calls for several years of professional software engineering experience, strong AWS, Kubernetes, Linux, container, and coding skills, and a product mindset focused on developer experience.

Requirements

• Several years of professional experience in software engineering, ideally in platform engineering, SRE, or DevOps.
• Solid experience with AWS and Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform.
• In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes, Linux, and containers.
• Strong software engineering skills, including writing production-grade code in a language such as Go, Python, or TypeScript and building platform services and APIs.
• Experience designing REST APIs.
• Solid Git skills and knowledge of platform services such as CI/CD and observability.
• A product mindset, viewing developers as customers of the platform.
• Good communication skills in English.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with GitOps, such as Argo CD, and secrets management, such as Vault.
• Experience with internal developer portals, such as Backstage.
• Experience with messaging systems, such as Kafka.
• A computer science degree is welcome but not required.

Responsibilities

• Build the next-generation cloud-native platform on AWS and own architecture and design decisions.
• Design and build platform services, APIs, and self-service capabilities for teams to build, deploy, and operate core services end-to-end.
• Create standardized templates, pipelines, and building blocks that help teams reach production quickly and safely.
• Build and evolve AWS cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, including Kubernetes and managed services.
• Keep the platform secure, reliable, and cost-efficient.
• Work with development teams to understand their needs and continually improve the developer experience.
• Maintain existing on-premises infrastructure and Kubernetes systems while migration to AWS is underway.
• Guide the migration of approximately 175 existing services to the new platform.
