Platform Engineer

KeplerNew York, NY
$200,000 - $280,000Onsite

About The Position

Kepler is building the infrastructure layer that wraps around AI models to make their outputs reliable, traceable, and verifiable. The company started in finance, creating a research product that allows analysts to supercharge their workflow. The architecture, which includes provenance, deterministic computation, and verification, is applicable to other high-stakes industries like chemicals, legal, and healthcare. The founding team has extensive experience from Palantir and Meta in building large-scale data infrastructure. Kepler is backed by prominent investors in the AI and data space.

Requirements

  • 5+ years building and operating production cloud platforms.
  • Owned the AWS account, the IaC repo, and the pager.
  • Deep AWS fluency (VPCs, IAM, KMS, EKS or ECS, RDS) and IaC discipline.
  • Pulumi preferred, Terraform or CDK experience translates.
  • Track record building developer platforms: CI/CD, paved-path tooling, internal services.
  • Shipped enterprise auth (SSO/SAML/SCIM) and the audit/SOC 2 work that comes with it.
  • Comfortable in Rust or Python for systems work; able to read and contribute.
  • Think of platform as a product, not a service.
  • Prioritize making paths to production shorter over shipping new services.
  • Experience fixing underlying systems rather than just symptoms.
  • Set compounding architectural standards, cost discipline, and observability defaults.
  • Care about the end-user's experience with the shipped product.
  • Proactive in fixing issues rather than filing tickets.
  • Provide design feedback before PRs are merged.
  • Communicate proactively and respond promptly to teammate requests.
  • Adapt to changing plans while still shipping work.

Nice To Haves

  • Pulumi experience preferred, but Terraform or CDK experience translates.

Responsibilities

  • Own the infrastructure foundation of Kepler's AI research platform, including cloud, databases, deployment fabric, and security posture.
  • Define how Kepler ships, scales, and earns trust from security-conscious buyers.
  • Own the AWS account architecture, Pulumi baseline, and deployment pipelines.
  • Stand up the enterprise deployment model (single-tenant, in-VPC, BYOK).
  • Set the security baseline (SOC 2 controls, audit logging, identity, network isolation).
  • Establish the paved path: service templates, CI/CD, secrets management, and observability defaults.
  • Drive Kepler's database strategy at scale, focusing on Postgres performance, replication, tenant isolation, and schema evolution.
  • Own production reliability, including SLOs, on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortems.
  • Set architectural patterns for capacity planning, cost discipline, and service standards.

Benefits

  • 100% covered top-of-the-line medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their families.
  • HSA maxed by the company to the IRS limit.
  • Automatic coverage for life, AD&D, and disability insurance.
  • Daily lunch in office.

  • "Build anything" budget for tools, libraries, datasets, or infrastructure.
  • Learning budget for conferences, courses, or programs.
