About The Position

Join the Information Technology team at Flair as a Platform Engineer (DCS), a technically skilled professional who will support the configuration, integration, reliability, and ongoing development of Flair’s Departure Control System (DCS) and related airport passenger-processing platforms. Reporting to the Manager, IT Applications, you will work closely with Airport Operations, Network Control, the DCS vendor, airport authorities, and Digital/IT teams to configure and test system changes, manage integrations with airport and third-party systems, and troubleshoot technical issues that impact check-in, boarding, baggage operations, and other critical airport processes. Travel to airport locations will be required to support DCS deployments, integration testing, and go-lives. This is a full-time, on-site position that can be based at any of our Edmonton (YEG), Calgary (YYC), Vancouver (YVR), or Toronto (YYZ) offices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience supporting a Departure Control System (DCS) or other airline/airport operational platform.
  • Hands-on experience with IATA passenger and baggage messaging standards, such as Type B/Teletype messaging, EDIFACT, or PADIS.
  • Experience developing and maintaining APIs and system-to-system integrations.
  • Experience conducting UAT and supporting production releases and cutovers in an operational environment.
  • Strong understanding of departure control operations, including check-in, boarding, load control, and baggage processes.
  • Working knowledge of IATA passenger and baggage messaging standards and airline industry data formats.
  • Technical proficiency in APIs, system integrations, and troubleshooting message/data flow between systems.
  • Comfort working with SQL and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to investigate data issues and support configuration or automation tasks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose issues under operational time pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with Airport Operations, vendors, and cross-functional Digital/IT teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to time-sensitive, operationally critical issues.
  • Capability to independently identify solutions and drive improvements to platform reliability and integration quality.
  • Clear criminal record check and satisfactory references.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without restriction.
  • Must have a valid passport for travel across the airline's network.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC).

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications in systems administration, integration, or IT service management (e.g., ITIL) are considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting integrations with airport common-use platforms (CUPPS/CUTE), self-service kiosks, baggage handling/reconciliation systems, or weight and balance systems is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in an airline, airport, or ground handling environment is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, maintain, and support Flair's Departure Control System (DCS), including check-in, boarding, load control, and baggage reconciliation functionality.
  • Build and maintain airport, station, and flight-specific configurations (e.g., check-in profiles, seat maps, boarding rules, baggage allowances) in coordination with Airport Operations.
  • Administer user and role-based access for DCS applications in line with security and least-privilege requirements.
  • Apply and validate DCS platform patches, releases, and vendor-issued updates in a controlled, tested manner.
  • Support and troubleshoot integrations between the DCS and airport common-use platforms (CUPPS/CUTE), self-service check-in kiosks, self-bag-drop, and boarding gate readers.
  • Coordinate with airport authorities and ground handling partners on system connectivity, terminal equipment configuration, and airport-side technical requirements.
  • Support integration with baggage handling systems (BHS) and baggage reconciliation systems (BRS), including bag tag printing and scan-event data flow.
  • Support integration with weight and balance systems to ensure accurate load control data is exchanged between the DCS and downstream systems.
  • Assist with the evaluation and rollout of biometric boarding, e-gate, and other passenger self-service technologies as they are introduced across the network.
  • Develop, support, and troubleshoot IATA-standard passenger and baggage messaging (e.g., Type B/Teletype messaging, EDIFACT, PADIS) between the DCS and airport, interline, and industry systems.
  • Build and maintain APIs and integration points between the DCS and other Flair systems, including the reservation system, airport operational systems, and reporting/data platforms.
  • Monitor message flow and data integrity between systems, investigating and resolving message failures, rejects, and data mismatches.
  • Maintain integration documentation, including message specifications, mapping documents, and system interface diagrams.
  • Monitor DCS platform health, performance, and availability, proactively identifying and addressing issues before they affect operations.
  • Act as the technical escalation point for DCS-related incidents affecting check-in, boarding, baggage, or load control at any station, coordinating with the DCS vendor, Airport Operations, and Network Control to restore service.
  • Participate in major incident response and post-incident review for DCS-related outages or degraded service.
  • Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning for DCS and related airport systems.
  • Design and execute test plans for DCS configuration changes, integrations, and vendor releases, including regression and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), prior to production deployment.
  • Manage the technical relationship with the DCS vendor, including issue escalation, release coordination, and participation in vendor roadmap discussions.
  • Participate in change management processes for all DCS-related changes, ensuring appropriate testing, approvals, and rollback plans are in place.
  • Prepare and maintain runbooks, configuration standards, and technical documentation for the DCS platform and its integrations.
  • Provide technical training and support to Airport Operations and Service Desk teams on DCS functionality and known issues.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support business objectives.
