About The Position

This is a brand new plant located in Brook Park, OH, offering a great opportunity for a new first shift supervisor. The role involves coaching and guiding a team of employees to achieve optimum levels of productivity, quality, and safety while meeting operational deadlines and budgets. This includes recruiting, hiring, and training qualified employees, and maintaining a high-performance work environment through goal setting, operating principles, communication, and fair treatment. The supervisor must address poor performance and behavior that poses risks or impacts team objectives. The position works directly on the warehouse floor on or around heavy machinery and is considered safety sensitive.

Requirements

  • Basic math and reading skills obtained by a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate with plant manager, sales staff, and warehouse personnel.
  • Ability to understand equipment and tolerances from past experience and successful past performance.
  • Warehouse experience with forklift, packing and measuring.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership and team building skills – even if from an unrelated business or non-business organization.
  • Safety Mindset.
  • Must be local to the Cleveland, OH area.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug testing, which may include testing for marijuana.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years previous supervisory experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of metals handled in regard to proper staging, processing, packaging, and shipping.
  • First aid and CPR training.
  • Exposure to labor relations, safety programs, ISO standards, lean practices and sales functions.

Responsibilities

  • Meet all production and distribution objectives and deadlines within the established budget.
  • Teach, coach and demonstrate work activities for team members.
  • Conduct performance reviews and disciplinary functions.
  • Coordinate, assign, and review work.
  • Direct staff on priority of work to be accomplished.
  • Ensure all team members receive required instruction in safety procedures, proper use of equipment, performance standards, disciplinary processes, and other workplace and Company policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Maintain timely, effective, and professional communications with all internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Perform effective record keeping, filing, and other administrative duties as required.
  • Report any accidents or incidents that occur within the designated facility (on- or off-site) immediately and forward to the Operations Manager within 24 hours.
  • Monitor working conditions regularly to ensure the safety of all team members.
  • Take timely corrective action and disciplinary action as necessary.
  • Apply problem-solving techniques to ensure all personnel and quality issues are resolved in a timely manner (examples: 8D; 5 Why; Kaizen Newsletters).
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Operations Manager or Plant Manager.
