About The Position

The Safety Manager reports to the Director, Operations within Crown Bakeries. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs across assigned Crown Bakeries facilities to ensure a safe, compliant, and zero-incident work environment. The Safety Manager partners with plant leadership, operations teams, and Human Resources to embed a proactive safety culture throughout the organization and ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. This role plays a critical part in protecting the health and well-being of all Crown Bakeries employees and driving continuous improvement in safety performance across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field required; equivalent experience in a manufacturing safety role will be considered.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification required.
  • 5–8 years of progressive safety management experience within a food manufacturing or industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910 General Industry), food manufacturing safety standards, and workers' compensation processes.
  • Proven track record of driving measurable improvement in safety performance metrics (TRIR, DART) across a multi-site manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, and developing corrective action plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs for diverse employee populations, including bilingual (English/Spanish) audiences.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization from front-line employees to senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret safety data, identify trends, and drive proactive corrective action.
  • Experience with OSHA recordkeeping, regulatory reporting, and managing safety audits or inspections.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with safety management software is a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including occasional evenings and weekends, to support safety needs across all shifts.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities across multiple locations simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or ASP certification strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred for effective plant-floor communication.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage safety programs, policies, and procedures across assigned facilities in compliance with OSHA regulations and Crown Bakeries' safety standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments across all assigned plants; identify hazards, prioritize corrective actions, and track completion to closure.
  • Lead incident investigation processes for all workplace injuries, near misses, and safety events; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate OSHA recordkeeping and reporting including OSHA 300 logs, incident reports, and workers' compensation documentation; ensure all regulatory submissions are complete and on time.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, including new hire onboarding, annual refreshers, and role-specific safety topics.
  • Partner with Plant Managers and all department managers to drive accountability for safety performance at the plant level; build a proactive, zero-incident safety culture.
  • Monitor and analyze safety KPIs including TRIR, DART rate, near misses, and safety observation rates; report results to the Plant Manager, Director of Operations, & Corporate EHS Director.
  • Coordinate with the Corporate EHS Director on enterprise-wide safety initiatives, regulatory updates, and best practice sharing across the Crown Bakeries facility network.
  • Manage and facilitate safety committee meetings at assigned facilities; ensure action items are tracked and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate workers' compensation claims management in partnership with HR; support return-to-work programs and light duty placements.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental health and safety permits, programs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate and recommend personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements for all job functions; ensure adequate PPE supply, usage, and training at all assigned facilities.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, and crisis response protocols for each assigned facility.
  • Support capital project reviews to ensure safety considerations are incorporated into equipment purchases, facility modifications, and new line installations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director, Operations.
