About The Position

Universal Industrial Gases, LLC (UIG), a wholly owned subsidiary of Nucor, is hiring a Plant Operator in Darlington, South Carolina. UIG operates air separation plants that supply oxygen, nitrogen, and argon around the clock to Nucor facilities and third-party clients, and exports liquid cryogenic products by road tanker. The Plant Operator monitors plant performance and operations to support efficiency, functionality, and safety. The role involves conducting plant and equipment rounds, taking readings, recording abnormalities, carrying out analytical calibrations and adjustments, interpreting technical documentation, and performing planned maintenance. The operator must follow FDA/QMS compliance programs, current Good Manufacturing Practices, applicable procedures, and UIG quality systems. Safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards must be upheld at all times. Employment is contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment drug screening that includes urine and hair follicle testing.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Relevant military, industrial gas/cryogenics, or continuous-process facilities experience.
General knowledge of electrical and instrumentation equipment in process plant environments.
Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening, including urine and hair follicle testing.

Associate degree or technical school certification.

Responsibilities

Monitor and assess plant performance to maintain efficiency, functionality, and safety.
Conduct rounds of plant operations, grounds, and equipment; take readings on critical systems, observe functionality, and document abnormalities for corrective action.
Use calibration standards and related equipment, including inspection, testing, and measurement tools and calibration gas cylinders.
Perform routine analytical calibrations and adjustments.
Read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, manuals, and other documentation to support plant operations and maintenance.
Safely execute planned maintenance tasks and ensure equipment and systems function optimally and safely.
Follow FDA/QMS compliance programs, cGMP, applicable procedures, and UIG internal quality systems.
Initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
