About The Position

Under the supervision of a specified departmental supervisor, operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge and effluent. The incumbent observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and tests results to determine processing requirements. Work is reviewed through observation and written reports for adherence to established policies and work progress.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by two (2) years of experience in the field of wastewater treatment or a related area.
  • Must possess the ability to obtain a Florida certification class "C" license at the first available opportunity.
  • Valid Driver’s License: With proof of automobile insurance
  • Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record
  • Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving record
  • Knowledge of basic water/wastewater treatment methods and procedures, sanitary characteristics of water/wastewater and chemicals used in the treatment process.
  • Knowledge of plant safety precautions.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of treatment plant equipment including pumps, measuring instruments, valves and laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to gather and maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors, managers and the public.

  • Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors, adjusts and records data from gauges, meters, control panel and equipment to ensure proper chemical treatment, pressures and flow rates of the water/wastewater system.
  • Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings.
  • Extracts samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses.
  • Inspect and clean, if necessary, mechanical equipment in a waste/wastewater treatment plant.
  • Performs routine troubleshooting on process equipment.
  • Must effectively and positively represent the City in delivering and performing work with colleagues and clients, irrespective of gender, race, religion, age, disability, political affiliation or belief, or sexual orientation.
  • Must establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors and managers.
  • Performs related work as required.
