Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • Registered Professional Nurse with current state license to practice
  • Minimum 5 years of Occupational Health and or professional nursing experience
  • BLS/CPR certification
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Detailed knowledge of Worker’s Compensation regulations
  • Detailed knowledge of OSHA and other federal regulations that govern the workplace
  • BLS/CPR certification
  • Physical Assessment skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong written skills
  • Proficient computer-based skills

Responsibilities

  • Administer occupational health activities for Abbott employees while applying in depth knowledge of clinical occupational health nursing.
  • Utilize knowledge of regulations impacting the work site, current legislation, environmental safety and workforce health issues, and use this to provide an individualized plan of care for a range of routine to complex occupational health assignments.
  • Serve as an expert in health promotion and disease prevention, and work in partnership with appropriate people consistent with corporate culture, business objectives and the needs of employee and community populations.
  • Function as a resource to the EHS staff.
  • Administer the procedures of the occupational and environmental health and safety program consistent with the company's general policies concerning health services.
  • Assess the health needs of employees and employee populations.
  • Perform all required medical surveillance activities.
  • Assess and treat work related illness and injuries.
  • Function as a subject matter expert on case management performed including Worker’s Compensation without lost time, work related and personal restrictions, referrals.
  • Apply detailed knowledge of regulations impacting work site and employee population to best address employee and workforce health issues.
  • Stay current on legislation and regulations that impact this environment.
  • Learn about employee population demographics and identify key areas for education and intervention.
  • Implement timely, thorough programs and services that address these needs.
  • Dialogue with the employees to identify a suitable plan for intervention and/or resumed work activity.
  • Encourage employee to engage in the appropriate intervention and follow-up.
  • Track progress and provide continued support.
  • Support and evaluate clinical procedures and practice guidelines.
  • Develop and provide opportunities for in-service education/staff development and continuing professional education.
  • Provide leadership, direction and technical counsel to members of the Occupational Health team (i.e. safety, industrial hygiene, bio-safety).
  • Collaborate with upper management to apply the common tools for managing the project scope, cost, schedule and resources.
  • Participate in strategic planning process, case management courses, and budgetary and operating expense processes.
  • Independently resolve issues, elevating only the most complex situations to the EHS Manager, and GOHS as needed.
  • Serve as an occupational and environmental health and safety expert to the corporation, community, and other outside groups.
  • Meet compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.
