About The Position

McWane Ductile Ohio is seeking a full-time Plant Nurse to join their team. This on-site position involves a minimum of 40 hours per week on the 2nd Shift. The Plant Nurse will be responsible for providing direct patient care, managing health and safety programs, and coordinating workers' compensation claims. This role requires a strong understanding of occupational health principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to maintain accurate records while ensuring confidentiality. The Plant Nurse will also play a key role in monitoring the work environment to ensure the health and safety of all workers and will assist in developing employee programs related to health education and accident prevention.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing plus two or more years experience as an occupational health nurse; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Registered Nurse License
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN)
  • Certified hearing conservation
  • Certificate of completion of Spirometry Course
  • Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Computer literate; proficient with Microsoft Windows, MS Office programs and applications such as word processing, email, spreadsheets, and database management.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as Company policies, operating and procedure manuals and general instructions.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both verbal and electronic means to customers, co-workers, and manager.
  • Ability to analyze and understand customer orders/communications and be able to respond effectively.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages and fractions.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
  • Knowledge of the metric system.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule or diagram form.
  • Ability to understand the nature of the problem and steps needed to resolve them.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Rehabilitation Nurse/Registered Nurse (CRRN) or Certified in Case Management (CCM) a plus
  • ACLS a plus

Responsibilities

  • Takes patient's vital signs, treats wounds, and evaluates physical condition of patient.
  • Uses and documents the nursing process in care management.
  • Assesses diagnoses and treats patients consistent with appropriate standards and laws.
  • Counsels patients on reduction of risks associated with occupational and environmental health and safety hazards.
  • Uses and maintains an accurate and complete record keeping system, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Identifies the need for case management intervention.
  • Contacts Physician and hospital to arrange for further medical treatment, when needed.
  • Coordinates patient health screening and surveillance programs and services.
  • Monitors the work environment to assure the health and safety of workers.
  • Identifies internal resources, assets and capabilities which might be used in the event of a local or regional emergency and/or disaster incident.
  • Monitors legislative activities that may impact nursing practice, workers, worksite, and environment.
  • Develops and coordinates employee programs such as health education, accident prevention, alcohol abuse counseling.
  • Designs and manages health, safety and environmental programs and services consistent with corporate culture, business objectives and the needs of worker and community populations.
  • Assists Physician in employee medical examinations.
  • Performs weekly audits of open workers' compensation claims as well as accident investigations.
  • Conducts various safety audits for the Safety department.
  • Works closely with all members of the Safety department and with Human Resources regarding various aspects, including injured employees work status, WC hearings and WC litigation.
  • Completes monthly, weekly reports in terms of money spent for medical, indemnity and legal costs.
  • Obtains transportation of injured employees to doctor's office.
  • Provides fit testing to new employees.
  • Monitors disability claims.
  • Fosters positive work relationships.
  • Observes and enforces all Company, housekeeping, safety and plant policies and procedures.
  • Creates and maintains a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Keeps Safety Manager and other key managers abreast of significant issues or developments as appropriate.
