About The Position

KMC specializes in high-performance alloys and friction materials from raw materials to finished products under one roof in Orillia, Canada. Manufacturing unique heat-resistant alloys and high-nickel/chrome alloys primarily for the petrochemical industries, Kubota leads the industry in quality and advanced technology. As per customer requirements, Kubota designs and casts centrifugal pipes and static castings of fittings, which are then machined, welded (Automatic, Semi-Automatic, Orbital & Manual), GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, followed by in-house NDT (RT, PT, VT), in-house DT, R&D lab, as well as hydro testing. This role is responsible for selecting, writing, monitoring and improving metallurgical processes for Kubota Materials Canada Corporation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or a Diploma in Engineering or Metallurgy or Material Science
  • Minimum 3 years experience in Metallurgical role
  • Proven understanding of metallurgical concepts, processes and analytical techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge of material properties of steel, specifically stainless steels and related alloys
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of principles of lean methodology for process improvement
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines with multiple tasks and shifting priorities
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineers of Ontario designation (maintain current standing) an asset

Responsibilities

  • Specify alloy codes and heat treatments in accordance with customer and local specifications (ASTM, PED, TSSA, ASME Section IX)
  • Prepare and issue Material Testing pages (MT-pages) & Heat Treatment Procedures; respond to customer or internal inquiries
  • Meet with customers to address Pre-Inspection meetings issues; review specifications to determine metallurgical capabilities/processes for completion
  • Check daily chemistry reports address “off analysis” heats
  • Specify melting procedures and audit/amend as needed
  • Review incoming MTR’s for raw materials with Purchasing, to ensure continued quality standards
  • Control MF-codes in the LN system, including work instructions and bills of material
  • Provide input on welding metallurgy in conjunction with the Welding Technologist for novel welding procedures
  • Assist Quality department, Sales, Engineering, R&D, upon request
  • Initiate scrap sales of unusable shavings/revert, cut-off and blast dusts
  • Initiate and track refining operations with outside vendors
  • Survey Heat treat equipment for uniformity and fitness for service, suggest maintenance activities based on findings
  • Monitor raw material loading based on the planning schedule to maintain sufficient supplies for production
  • Assess material certifications prior to purchase and after receipt
  • Ensure alignment with the overall departmental goals and objectives for production
  • Support Kubota Global Identity, with the Brand and Spirit statements of Kubota Materials Canada Corporation
  • Other related duties, as required
