About The Position

Provide technical support related to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of products that safely and cost effectively meet requirements for quality and delivery, with a focus on melt shop (AOD/EAF/bottom pouring) operations.

Requirements

• Ability to communicate well with both technical and non-technical personnel
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Problem solving techniques (Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, etc.)
• Strong analytical and statistical analysis skills
• Strong computer skills
• Minimum 4-year degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science
• Minimum 5 year's experience as a process metallurgist within a melt shop environment
• US Citizen or US Person meeting ITAR requirements

Nice To Haves

• Graduate degree with specific research or practical focus on steelmaking is desirable.
• SEM/EDS operation preferred
• 3 years minimum experience in ferrous metallurgy of Aerospace materials
• 3 years minimum experience in primary melting and remelting processing
• Preferred experience with SEM/EDS including automated feature analysis (AFA)

Responsibilities

• Compliance with Quality and Safety systems and procedures
• Review and disposition heats produced in the air melt shop.
• Improve melt shop practices with regards to product/process improvement.
• Internal interface to Management and functional groups across Universal Stainless plant locations
• Perform statistical analysis and correlate process and product data
• Support non-conformance disposition, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
• Lead and support continuous improvement efforts
• Review customer claims and issue technical reports
• Provide support during customer and regulatory audits
