About The Position

This role will oversee the day-to-day operations and personnel for the Fish Island facility. This position consists of four direct reports. NORPEL is a rapidly growing company, and this position will require the individual hired to be able to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time. Additionally, this position demands strong communication skills, leadership, and accountability.

Requirements

  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Access) to analyze data trends.
  • Strong hands-on user of MRP/ERP software systems and maintenance systems.
  • The ability to develop and execute plant manufacturing budgets
  • Ability to provide leadership for the successful day-to-day operation of the facility.
  • Demonstrated strong team building and advanced coaching skills.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles and applications associated with manufacturing operations, maintenance, and engineering.

  • 5 years of progressive experience in a key leadership/management role at a manufacturing facility.
  • Previous experience/best practices implementing and using continuous improvement/lean tools such as Six Sigma, 5-S, Lean Manufacturing, and Transactional Lean to drive improvement.
  • Previous experience/strong understanding of budgeting/expense management with basic understanding of financial accounting practices.
  • Previous experience/broad understanding of safety systems and implementation of safety rules and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Write and review established production schedules for the manufacturing departments to ensure established inventory levels are met while operating at the highest efficiency possible.
  • Monitor and improve production yields to determine trends and areas of improvement.
  • Coordinate the hiring and training of all manufacturing personnel, both permanent and temporary.
  • Analyze workforce requirements.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and provide coaching and guidance to all operations employees.
  • Work closely with production team to ensure all members of the manufacturing team are aware of safety policies to provide a safe workplace.
  • Work with the production/purchasing manager to develop and improve supplier relationships. All improvements must meet company quality expectations.
  • Work with the Maintenance Manager to ensure the preventive maintenance program and spare parts program are on track to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor operation expenses and research ways to reduce costs while maintaining product quality and preventing downtime.
  • Continuing the inventory cycle count program that identifies real and potential inventory issues in finished goods, raw materials, packaging, and containers.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels to meet fill rate of 99% and on-time shipment of 100%.
  • Control and improve the flow of production while maintaining product quality.
  • Works closely with quality control personnel to review product consistency and appearance to produce products that meet or exceed company standards and customer expectations.
  • Work with the SVP of QC and/or counterpart to schedule human and equipment resources to achieve 99% compliance on sanitation logs and environmental testing program.
  • Maintain and support a superior safety and housekeeping program, including all timely communication initiatives.
  • Maintain physical security and access points to maintain a safe and secure work environment.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively; capable of listening intently; have visual acuity to process reports.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time during weekly inspections, daily rounds, and direct report coaching.
  • The ability to perform other job-related duties as assigned or as needed.
