About The Position

Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, tools, equipment, furnishings, fixtures, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems using journeyman level skills in all the various crafts required to complete the essential functions of the job. Under periodic supervision and review, works using considerable initiative and ingenuity by performing various maintenance and repair tasks. This role requires active participation in problem-solving, team building, and other team activities to improve processes, productivity, and quality. The technician is responsible for the proper functioning of all machines, tools, equipment, furnishings, and the physical plant, ensuring accuracy in communication regarding maintenance or repair issues that affect production schedules or the working environment. A strong emphasis is placed on good housekeeping and adherence to all safety requirements related to machines, tools, equipment, and the physical plant, including fire safety, hazardous material handling, and building safety codes.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to perform routine duties where a high level of independent judgment and action are required.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • Must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspects and tests machinery, tools and equipment to assure proper working condition.
  • Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with appropriate personnel to diagnose problem or repair machine.
  • Dismantles defective machines, tools and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
  • Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment, as well as telephone and other communication lines or equipment.
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems, including facility plumbing, and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains physical structure and appearance of establishment, including cleaning, painting, repairing or installing furniture/fixtures, and disposal of trash, recyclables, and hazardous material.
  • Install programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment such as robots or programmable controllers.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, milling machine, etc. to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.
  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other structures which may be wood, drywall, metal, glass or other construction material.
  • Operates a motor vehicle and drives and operates a forklift.
  • Works as an active team member by participating in problem solving, team building, and all other team activities to improve the processes, productivity, quality, etc. of the department and the company.
  • Uses interpersonal skills as well as good written and verbal communications.
  • Performs any training of other employees in maintenance and repair functions as required.
  • Assists other Company personnel as required.
  • Performs duties where facility, property, tools, equipment, or machines may be damaged or man hours lost, through improper daily maintenance and attention to processing.
  • Maintains and repairs machines, tools and equipment as well as physical plant and furnishings at highest levels of complexity.
  • Performs duties that require close attention to work and supporting documentation specifications and other requirements.
  • Responsible for proper functioning of all machines, tools, equipment, furnishings and the physical plant.
  • Communicates to appropriate personnel any problems or concerns regarding maintenance or repair issues as it affects production schedules or the working environment.
  • Maintains good housekeeping and adheres to all safety requirements related to machines, tools and equipment.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of safety requirements as related to the physical plant regarding such things as fire safety regulations, hazardous material handling procedures, building safety codes etc.
  • Adheres to, and enforces Company safety rules.
  • Solves highly complex problems related to maintaining and repairing the physical plant, furnishings and all machines, tools and equipment.
  • Adapts to situations or conditions that are extremely variable and where limited standardization exists.
