About The Position

The Plant Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for leading all fixed plant maintenance activities for aggregate, asphalt, wash plant, crushing, and supporting facilities. This position develops and executes maintenance strategies that maximize equipment reliability, operational availability, safety performance, environmental compliance, and cost efficiency. The Maintenance Superintendent plans, coordinates, and supervises all preventive, predictive, corrective, and capital maintenance activities while leading maintenance personnel and contractors. The role partners closely with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Safety, and Finance to ensure plant assets consistently support production requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • 5+ years in construction management and/or craft supervision experience (i.e. Foreman) in a similar field of construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods); company policies, procedures and standards.
  • Communication, organizational, supervisory and planning skills required.
  • Excellent management skills

  • Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment
  • Ability and willingness to abide by Granite’s Code of Conduct on a daily basis
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Responsibilities

  • Lead all maintenance activities in compliance with safety standards, MSHA, OSHA, environmental requirements and company policies.
  • Conduct JHAs, pre-task planning, LOTO verification and risk assessments.
  • Ensure contractor safety compliance.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses.
  • Develop long-term reliability strategies.
  • Monitor condition of crushers, screens, conveyors, asphalt plants, wash plants, tanks, dryers, burners and electrical systems.
  • Lead root cause analysis of failures.
  • Implement predictive maintenance practices.
  • Develop annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly maintenance plans.
  • Manage PM schedules.
  • Ensure work orders are prioritized and completed.
  • Maintain equipment history and records.
  • Develop shutdown and outage schedules.
  • Coordinate manpower and contractor resources.
  • Lead major rebuilds and commissioning activities.
  • Manage maintenance backlog.
  • Develop maintenance budgets and forecasts.
  • Track labor, parts and contractor expenditures.
  • Evaluate repair-versus-replace decisions.
  • Support annual budget preparation.
  • Manage storeroom inventory.
  • Identify critical spare parts.
  • Establish min/max inventory levels.
  • Lead inventory reviews.
  • Lead mechanics, electricians and contractors.
  • Conduct performance reviews.
  • Develop training and succession plans.
  • Promote accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Analyze maintenance KPIs.
  • Standardize maintenance practices.
  • Utilize reporting tools.
  • Identify capital improvement opportunities.
