About The Position

This role involves conducting routine inspections, testing, lubrication, and repairs on production line equipment, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical components. The Plant Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing mechanical or electrical failures quickly to minimize production disruptions, preparing and calibrating machinery for different product runs, and adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and sanitary guidelines to ensure machinery is safe for food production. The position also requires maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, plant utility systems, and communicating with management and employees regarding production efficiency. A continuous improvement mindset is encouraged to identify process improvement opportunities. The role utilizes various hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment, and performs routine and major maintenance on filling, packaging, and auxiliary equipment. Other tasks as required and duties as assigned will also be part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in a maintenance role within a manufacturing facility, preferably in the food and beverage industry.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical circuits, and mechanical repairs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, stand for long periods, and work in wet, extreme cold, or high-noise environments.
  • Often involves early, late, or long shifts.
  • Sometimes involves weekends and holidays to accommodate production schedules.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialized technical training or certification.
  • Knowledge of and experience with sanitary pumps, valves, seals, CIP systems, VFDs, sensors, PLC/HMI, and refrigeration-related production equipment.
  • Experience in dairy, ice cream, frozen dessert, or food manufacturing maintenance.
  • Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting continuous ice cream freezers (Hoyer, VS500, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections, testing, lubrication, and repairs on production line equipment, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical components.
  • Diagnose mechanical or electrical failures quickly to minimize production disruptions.
  • Prepare, adjust, and calibrate machinery for different product runs, such as changing packaging types.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and sanitary guidelines, ensuring machinery is safe for food production.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts, used, and work orders.
  • Maintain plant utility systems, such as air compressors, water systems, and refrigeration systems.
  • Maintain communication with management and employees and notify them of any problems and/or concerns that may restrict the efficiency of production.
  • Utilize continuous improvement mindset, assisting in identifying opportunities to improve processes.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Perform routine and major maintenance on filling, packaging, and associate auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform other tasks as required and other duties as assigned.
