About The Position

The Plant Maintenance Foreman is a hands-on working leader responsible for performing and directing daily maintenance activities for sand and gravel processing facilities, crushing plants, and hot mix asphalt operations. This position works alongside mechanics and maintenance personnel to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain fixed and portable plant equipment while ensuring safe and efficient plant operations. This role spends the majority of their time performing maintenance work in the field and provides day-to-day leadership, work direction, coaching, and training to maintenance crews. The position is responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, maximizing plant uptime, maintaining a safe work environment, and supporting operational goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 7+ years of maintenance experience in aggregate, mining, crushing, asphalt, or heavy industrial operations.
  • Demonstrated experience performing hands-on maintenance and repair of aggregate processing equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Working knowledge of crushing, screening, conveying, washing, and asphalt production equipment.
  • Skilled in maintenance practices involving bearings, gearboxes, hydraulics, pumps, conveyors, and rotating equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, equipment manuals, and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment and maintenance support equipment safely.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead crews while maintaining a hands-on work approach.
  • Ability to prioritize maintenance needs in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Regularly stand, walk, climb, kneel, bend, crawl, and work on uneven terrain.
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces while utilizing required fall protection equipment.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials and tools weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in varied weather and environmental conditions, including dust, noise, vibration, and temperature extremes.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school training in industrial maintenance, welding, electrical systems, diesel technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous lead mechanic, maintenance lead, or foreman experience preferred.
  • Experience working in MSHA-regulated operations preferred.
  • Proficient welding and fabrication skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-On Maintenance Leadership: Lead by example as a working foreman, actively participating in daily maintenance and repair activities. Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on plant equipment. Assign daily maintenance work and provide technical direction to mechanics, welders, electricians, and contractors. Work alongside crew members to safely complete maintenance projects, shutdowns, and emergency repairs. Ensure maintenance work is completed efficiently, safely, and to quality standards.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Perform inspections, adjustments, repair, and replacement of components on crushers and crushing circuits, screens and screening equipment, conveyors and transfer systems, wash plants and classification equipment, asphalt plant components, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, and hydraulic systems, and mobile and stationary aggregate processing equipment. Conduct root cause troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical failures. Assist with fabrication, welding, cutting, rigging, and equipment installation projects. Coordinate equipment shutdowns and repairs to minimize operational downtime.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Support and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Inspect equipment on a routine basis and identify developing maintenance concerns. Ensure work orders, inspections, and maintenance records are completed accurately and timely. Monitor equipment performance and report recurring issues to plant management.
  • Crew Coordination: Coordinate daily maintenance activities and manpower assignments. Mentor, train, and develop maintenance personnel on safe work practices and maintenance procedures. Assist with onboarding and skills development of new employees. Maintain effective communication with operations personnel regarding maintenance priorities and equipment status.
  • Safety and Compliance: Promote and enforce all company, MSHA, OSHA, and environmental requirements. Conduct pre-task planning, job hazard analyses, lockout/tagout procedures, and safety inspections. Lead daily safety discussions and participate in weekly safety meetings. Immediately address unsafe behaviors, conditions, and equipment. Ensure work areas are maintained in a clean and organized condition.
  • Plant Operations Support: Collaborate with plant operators and production personnel to maximize equipment availability. Respond promptly to breakdowns and production interruptions. Assist with plant startups, shutdowns, and portable plant moves when required. Support continuous improvement efforts aimed at improving reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
