About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Mechanical Maintenance Manager, this position oversees the operation of the steam power plant and related systems. It serves as a lead worker, providing work direction and training to lower-level steam plant workers in the installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of all associated steam plant equipment. This includes boilers, fuel-burning equipment, blowers, flow meters, pumps, generators, fans, pollution control equipment, chemical feed equipment, and air compressor equipment. The role is responsible for powerhouse safety practices, operating and maintaining all boiler and auxiliary equipment, recognizing and responding to unusual or threatening conditions with appropriate emergency action, understanding steam plant procedures, performing calculations, and maintaining accurate records.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
Department of Labor or equivalent license Stationary Engineer certificate or associate degree or tech school certification and two (2) or more years related experience.
Licensed as Ohio Third-Class Stationary Steam Engineer or equivalent license from another State.
Minimum 18 months experience while holding above mentioned license.
Knowledge of safety practices associated with operation of power plant.
Knowledge of supervisory principles/techniques.
Knowledge of stationary engineering.
Knowledge of power plant operation.
Skill in operation and maintenance of power plant and related equipment.
Ability to understand practical field of stationary engineering.
Ability to write instructions and reports relating to plant maintenance and power generating equipment.
Employees are required to stand, walk, climb, and bend for long periods of time.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Works well with hands.
Works with close tolerance.
Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
Must possess valid driver’s license and insurability under UT driving policies.
Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in mechanical maintenance.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to accurately record indicator readings.
Ability to perform work independently.
Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide.
Ability to work cooperatively with others.
Ability to solve technical problems.
Ability to read technical documents.
Must possess verbal communication skills necessary to provide excellent customer service.
Must possess verbal skills to communicate with other trades and work control.

Nice To Haves

Minimum 12 months experience in supervisory capacity preferred.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in supervisory capacity.
